I got mine today, is gorgeous! Everything is excellent quality. I am just contacting customer service since I am missing tip #104. I will be making a First Communion 3 layer cake soon, cant wait to use it!

When I first saw the television shows about cake decorating I absolutely fell in love with the idea of creating something from cake. I thought the dream of one day being on a cake show was way out of reach; however, I was very wrong because I quickly realized that I could take a cake decorating class at the local craft store. I felt like my dream had come true. When I arrived at my first class I was told to purchase the course one kit and some extras. My instructor also told us we should get a caddy to carry everything around in. About two days after my first class my parents surprised me with the Ultimate Tool Caddy, which is now known as the Ultimate Decorating Kit. This kit is the best item to purchase when you decided to start decorating cakes.
When you think of the word "ultimate" you probably would think that it would be outrageously priced. However, to your surprise it is actually very affordable. If you would purchase everything individually it would cost you hundreds of dollars. However, when it comes to the complete kit it only costs around two hundred dollars, which is extremely reasonable considering the kit has around one hundred twenty items including the caddy itself. If you would purchase the caddy empty it would cost you around seventy dollars, so why not pay an additional hundred and thirty dollars and get the kit completely full. The other Wilton kits only come with fifty or one hundred pieces and they cost almost just as much. So when they came out with the Ultimate Decorating Set it trumped all of the other decorating kits. When it comes to taking the cake decorating class this kit has almost everything you need but you still have to purchase a few extra items.
When you are decorating a cake whether it be in class or at a client's house you need something that is completely portable. The Ultimate Decorating Kit is completely portable and easy to travel with. The drawers do not fall out when you carry it and the clasps on tip cases at the top do not come loose at all. These are very good features because when traveling you do not want to get icing dye all over your car and you do not want to spill all of your tips and cutouts. The kit is also very easy to store. The kit, without the spatulas, is fourteen inches long, eight inches deep, and one foot tall. When you look at the top of the caddy you notice that it looks like raised bubble; this is where the decorating tips are stored and the raised bubbles are so the tips have room and are not smooched. The original caddies were a pretty baby blue color but the new caddies are a beautiful bright purple.
When it comes to cleaning the caddy is very simple to clean. All you really have to do is wipe it down with water or you can use a cleaner to simply wipe it down. Another cleaning tool is the tip brush. The tip brush is used when the tips are full of icing and you cannot get it out. The best cleaning tool I have come across is the dishwasher bag. When using this you place all of your dirty tips and couplers in it and place it on the top shelf of the dishwasher. It makes cleaning the smaller items easy.
When purchasing a decorating caddy you usually want something that will last you a long time. The ultimate tool caddy is extremely durable. I have had mine for two years and I've never had a single problem. The clasps that close the tip cases on the top of the caddy have never come loose or opened when they were not supposed to. Two of the smaller drawers are divided up into three compartments to store smaller tools. The middle drawer is a single drawer that is used to store icing dye and shimmer dusts. When you lift the tray out there is also storage down underneath. The bottom drawer is the most important to me because it is a large drawer where I personally keep my fondant tools. However, if you want to store smaller items there then you can add the dividers and make that one drawer into three separate spaces. The dividers are very sturdy and are very easy to put in and take out if you decided to reorganize your caddy. You cannot really bend the dividers so it is very hard to break them even when taking them in and out of the drawer.
The items that come in the caddy are also very durable. The tips are very sturdy and will not break. However, some of the tips that have small teeth on them can bend, but that is very easy to fix. The flower nails are very difficult to break. I have had mine for about two years and I have dropped them several time and they do not have a single scratch on them. The spatulas that come with the kit are very strong. You are able to mix several different things without bending the spatula a single inch.
When you purchase this kit you know you're getting just about everything you need to get started in the fabulous world of cake decorating. There are several basics that you must have. First you must have decorating bags. This kit comes with three different types of decorating bags: plastic disposable, cloth featherweight, and parchment paper triangles. The disposable bags are very easy because you use them once then through them away. However, the featherweight bags are great because you can reuse them several times and instead of throwing them away you put them in the dishwasher. You also need to have decorating tips. When choosing the decorating tip you need you first need to consider what you are decorating. If you are decorating a cake and decided that you want a shell border around the bottom then you need to make sure that you pick a star tip. However, there are several different star tips in the kit so you have to decide how big or small you want your stars. When making the rose you need a very specific tip that also comes in the kit. The kit comes with seventeen different tips. Another important item to have is several couplers. Couplers are used so that you can change the tips out on a bag without having to change the entire bag. There are also many tools for fondant and gum paste such as the veining tool. There is also a fondant cutter that allows you to roll out fondant and cut strips that are different widths and different designs. The kit also contains several items to help make exquisite flowers. The lily nails are used to make royal icing flowers. The kit also comes with foil squares which are used when creating the flowers so you can take them out to let them dry. When creating beautiful butter cream flowers you need several different types of nails so that you can create them to the best of your ability. The kit also comes with paintbrushes. These are used if you want to add shimmer dust to something this makes it easier and keeps your workplace clean. Another thing that comes in the kit is flower stamen. When making flowers you can place the stamen in the center to give the illusion that there is pollen in the flower. However, the flower stamens are not edible so you have to let your guests know so they do not eat them on accident. The kit also comes with a cake board. The cake board is what you place the cake on after it bakes while you are decorating it.
When I first received the tool caddy I thought that stuff would get lost in there because it is so big. However, in the past two years I've learned that this tool caddy is so easy to maneuver. Everything has its very easy to find because it all has its very own place. There are plenty of compartments to store just about any type of decorating tool there is out there. There is even a place to store your spatulas on the side. Since I have been decorating cakes for about two years now I have acquired more tools than I have space for so I am on the verge of buying an additional tool caddy so I can keep everything organized.
The Ultimate Decorating Set is an amazing buy. Despite what you might think it is very reasonable considering you get so much. The physical caddy is extremely durable and will last a very long time. When sorting through everything you will come to realize that you cannot lose anything in the caddy because everything has its very own place. When people are browsing through the store and come across this decorating kit some people might get excited about the appeal of the kit and want to become a famous cake decorator. I know the decorating kits inspired me to start watching the shows and become a cake decorator. This tool caddy was very helpful when I started decorating cakes and I hope it continues to help many others people chase their dream of being on a cake show on TLC. I hope to come day use my new skills to open up my own bakery one day!

Like the other reviewers, I'm deducting 1/2 star because there's NO INSTRUCTIONS or a list with pictures to help identify the pieces. I didn't expect it to show you how to use each tool (incentive to take courses?), but a list to let you know the names of each piece would have been helpful.

That said, this is a great buy if you plan on taking the Decorating Course 1-3. Plus there are lots of extra stuff as well. Love how organized and portable I can be. Organizer holds about 40 tips and good size drawers, multiple sizes. Seems durable and well thought out. With it being plastic, it's easy to clean. Yeah! Don't expect to store shape cutters, though. This is big, but not big enough to store all the different shapes for all the different occasions I plan on decorating for.

TIP: even though Amazon has a great price, I actually bought mine from Michael's. Michael's exclusively carries the purple color for $200, but with my 50% off coupon, I was able to get it for $100. $50 cheaper than Amazon, plus in my favorite color!
